Claire is an associate in our Commercial Leasing, Real Estate and Telecommunications Access Practice Groups. Claire’s practice focuses on commercial leasing transactions, including drafting and negotiating retail, office and industrial leases and ancillary documentation, as well as the practical resolution of lease disputes on behalf of both landlords and tenants and due diligence on acquisitions.
Prior to joining Owens Wright, Claire practised at a prominent boutique commercial real estate firm in Toronto. She also worked as in-house counsel for a real estate investment trust, where she was involved in all aspects of drafting and negotiating commercial leases and related lease documentation for properties across Canada and the United States, as well as providing legal support to stakeholders at the REIT.
Prior to her call to the Bar of Ontario, Claire worked as a real estate law clerk focusing on all aspects of commercial real estate matters, including acquisitions, dispositions and financing of commercial properties, and as a commercial leasing law clerk at a major national landlord.
Claire was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2016. She received her LL.B. from the University of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa), where she graduated in the top ten percent of her graduating class. During her final year of law school, Claire volunteered as a case worker in the Refugee Unit at the University of the Witwatersrand Law Clinic. Prior to law school, Claire obtained her B.A. degree (Psychology and Law) from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Claire has been a speaker for the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Law Society of Ontario.
